Student Food Insecurity: A Growing Crisis in Ontario
Food insecurity is a significant challenge for students in Ontario. According to Statistics Canada’s 2022 Canadian Income Survey, nearly 16% of young adults aged 15-24 face food insecurity, with rates higher among those attending post-secondary institutions. International students, who make up 19% of Ontario’s student population, are especially impacted by high tuition fees and living costs.
