Thousands of children in Ontario face hunger crises daily, with nearly 30% of food bank users being under 17, according to Food Banks Canada’s 2024 report. This implies that 3 in 10 individuals relying on food banks are children. Many go to school without a nutritious breakfast, affecting their ability to learn and progress. This highlights the urgent need for food donations to support young lives.
Sai Dham Food Bank’s Help & Feed initiative aims to change this through the Children’s Breakfast Program, providing nourishing meals to support children’s potential both in and outside the classroom.
Since 2014, the Help & Feed Children’s Breakfast Program has ensured that no child in the Peel Region starts their day hungry. What began as a small effort to support 100 children in Malton, Mississauga, has now expanded to serve over 15,000 children monthly across 25+ schools. Partnering with local schools, social organizations, and dedicated volunteers, we fight food insecurity by providing nutritious breakfasts for children that empower them to focus on their education and personal growth.
Participating families receive a weekly hamper filled with essential items tailored according to the children’s needs. Each hamper include:
