Position: Volunteer, Non-paid, Entry-level, Part-time

Sai Dham Food Bank is a nonprofit organization with a fantastic team of founders and volunteers who are passionately committed to serving seniors, people with special needs, children, the homeless, and even international students. Our primary focus is to selflessly tackle hunger and ensure that no one in our communities goes hungry. 

To serve seniors, the Sai Dham Wellness program was created to allow seniors to experience holistic wellness with Sai Dham’s senior programs. From physical health to mental wellness, continuous learning, and social connections, our thoughtfully curated sessions enhance active aging. Our programs include a Fitness Program, Healthy Eating, Social Activities, Wellness Education and Workshops, Elder Abuse Awareness and Crime Prevention, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Memory Cafe, Pet Therapy, Digital Empowerment, Dance as Medicine, and Mindful Practices for Well-Being. 

What you’ll do: 

As part of the team, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Conducting a thorough diet history
  • Analyzing and comparing food intake with nutritional requirements
  • Applying knowledge of nutrition requirements throughout the life cycle
  • Translating scientific, medical, and nutrition information into practical, individualized nutrition goals for our clients.
  • Determining potential nutrient, supplement, and drug interactions.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal care to our clients.
  • Using the Nutrition Care Process framework, conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, identify appropriate nutrition diagnoses, develop and implement client-centered nutrition intervention, and monitor and evaluate nutrition care plans.
  • Utilize and incorporate clinical tools, such as screening and assessment tools, according to program standards.
  • Document care plans and reassessment in patient’s medical record to meet program standards.
  • Collaborate with other members of the health care team on matters relating to the nutritional care of patients.

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • Nutritionist Internship in a public or private health care environment
  • Demonstrate strong skills in communication, interpersonal interaction, organization, and time management
  • Multidisciplinary experience is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of computers and experience with electronic medical records is an asset
  • Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition, or equivalent, from an approved University and an accredited dietetic internship will be preferred.
  • Active registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course within 6 months of hire is an asset
  • Knowledge of behavior change counselling and client-focused approaches and strategies
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Dietitian or in a nutrition-related profession is preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality, including paper, electronic formats, and other mediums
  • Good work and attendance record

You are able to:

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff and the public
  • Language proficiency in English is a must
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships in an interprofessional team with center staff, patients, and public and external health professionals.
  • Physically carry out the duties of the position.
  • Perform CPR techniques
